One day last Spring, I came home tired from work, opened my security grille door then got my key out of my handbag to open the front door. I heard a strange sound, looked down, and there, on my step, was a tiny baby bird, trapped between the security grille and the door.

He was probably only one or 2 days old. He was cheeping loudly and so frightened he had wet himself. I didn’t want to scare him by picking him up, so I just opened the door wide, left the grille door open for 10 minutes so he could easily fly away, then went inside and shut the door again.
